Signed into law in July 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) became effective two years later, and court decisions about the law began to multiply in the middle of the decade. In The Disability Pendulum, Ruth Colker presents the first legislative history of the enactment of the ADA in Congress and analyzes the first decade of judicial decisions under the act. She assesses the success and failure of the first ten years of litigation under the ADA, focusing on its three major titles: employment, public entities, and public accommodations.

The Disability Pendulum argues that despite an initial atmosphere of bipartisan support with the expectation that the ADA would make a significant difference in the lives of individuals with disabilities, judicial decisions have not been consistent with Congress’ intentions. The courts have operated like a pendulum, at times swinging to a pro-disabled plaintiff and then back again to a pro-defendant stance. Colker, whose work on the ADA has been cited by the Supreme Court, offers insightful and practical suggestions on where to amend the act to make it more effective in defending disability rights, and also explains judicial hostility toward enforcing the act.

Needs more meat

Although Disability Pendulum seeks to promnote the truth of the ADA, it doesn't seem to go far enough as, say, the far more powerful Disabling America: The Unintended Consequences of the Government's Protection of the Handicapped takes the ADA. D.P. is okay reading and a good historical perspective of the ADA but for true insight, try Disabling America: The Unintended Consequences of the Government's Protection of the Handicapped.

Ella LeBain is the author of a book series, Who’s Who In The Cosmic Zoo? Delight in this book!

After reading the authors first book I knew I had to read her second offering made manifest in this book. If you are looking to investigate and increase your knowledge in the spiritual arena Ella LeBain will have done you a great service in providing you an intensive and thorough book of research combined with personal knowingness and intuitive insight that will hopefully take you on a journey of increased awareness in which you may personally delight in the growth of your mind and soul's inner light. Whatever you may take away from this book as accounted treasure for your own personal journey forward into life know that it has been given from the mind and soul of an author with a purpose engaged with love to serve you in your further enlightenment. I heartily recommend this book for you to read knowing you will come away with so much in true value in it as a buffet for your soul.

Who IS God- find out in this something for everyone book!

Ella is obviously very well versed in God, the Bible and the history of religion. Her breath of knowledge in this subject is amazing. She has some very interesting points and explains them thoroughly and her information is well cited. Her second book"Who Is God" is broken up into sections inside the chapters on many different topics giving the reader a chance to read what may interest them at that time and go back to another topic later on. This worked for me as I could digest what I had read in a chapter without getting bogged down or overwhelmed by information and could stop for a while without losing the thread of what I was reading. I will be reading it for a while, and that is a good thing.

Swaps, futures, options, structured instruments - a wide range
of derivative products is traded in today's financial markets.
Analyzing, pricing and managing such products often requires
fairly sophisticated quantitative tools and methods. This book
serves as an introduction to financial mathematics with special
emphasis on aspects relevant in practice. In addition to numerous
illustrative examples, algorithmic implementations are demonstrated
using "Mathematica" and the software package "UnRisk" (available
for both students and teachers). The content is organized in 15
chapters that can be treated as independent modules.

In particular, the exposition is tailored for classroom use in a
Bachelor or Master program course, as well as for practitioners
who wish to further strengthen their quantitative background.

About the Author

Hansjoerg Albrecher is Professor of Actuarial Science at the Faculty of Business and Economics, University of Lausanne, as well as a Faculty Member of the Swiss Finance Institute. Previous affiliations include the Johann Radon Institute for Computational and Applied Mathematics of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Linz, the University of Linz, the University of Aarhus, K.U. Leuven and Graz University of Technology. The author has ample experience in connecting the academic world with practitioners' views and problems, and has been advising banks and insurance companies.

Andreas Binder is CEO of MathConsult GmbH and head of MathConsult's computational finance group, who have been developing the UnRisk® software suite for valuation and risk management of financial instruments. He is an experienced adviser of banks, auditors, regulators and capital management firms.

Volkmar Lautscham has graduated in Technical Mathematics and Financial/Industrial Management from Graz University of Technology and Karl-Franzens University, respectively, with longer academic stays abroad in Sheffield, London and Stockholm. From 2006 to 2009, he was working for a major investment bank in London focusing on credit underwriting/structuring and real estate. The author currently holds a position at the University of Lausanne, where he pursues a PhD degree and teaches within the MSc Actuarial Science programme.

Philipp Mayer obtained his PhD in financial mathematics from Graz University of Technology. He then held amongst others a post-doc position at the Radon Institute of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Linz, before returning to Graz as an assistant professor, where he carried out research in financial mathematics and taught both bachelor and master level courses. In 2010 he joined the Financial Markets department of a major financial institution in Brussels, where he is responsible for modeling equity, commodity and hybrid instruments.
